Shamrock Sock Progress

Hi,

I have my first Shamrock Sock done.

I also got a better close-up picture of the stitch pattern. It does look like shamrocks, as intended, but it is a bit more "bubbly" in texture than I really wanted. I may try another pair with more space between the shamrocks. This is the calf, with the top on the left of the picture.

Here's the chart pattern that I made up to get a "four-leaf clover" type of shamrock.

I used sixty total stitches in the sock, so there are three repeats of the pattern on the instep, and then six on the calf. I used a size smaller needle than normal (2.25 mm instead of 2.5 mm), because it was coming out a little big with all the yarnovers (YOs) in there. Also, the sort of bubbly appearance lays a little flatter if it is somewhat snug.

Haircut

One of our Friday activities, about every four weeks, is to get a haircut. Mitchell missed his last month, due to a cold, so he had extra long hair this time. Here is before:

Well, OK, it isn't *long*, but it is longer than usual! And after:

He enjoys getting his hair cut, as you can see, and he likes the bowl of lollypops Mik keeps in her shop, too. :)

P.S. Grandpa E got out of the hospital on Friday. The tissue around the cancer was clean, so he doesn't have to have chemo. All good news!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Hi,

When I got back from Las Vegas last week, I had a happy surprise waiting for me. My friend Ellen (Crazy For Ewe) sent me some St. Patrick's Day yarn! Thanks, Ellen!

I started a shamrock sock. I'll have to get a better picture of the pattern, later. My camera ran out of batteries after this picture, before I could do a close-up.

It is two yarnovers separated by a double decrease, then plain for a row, repeat. (The shamrocks also stagger... I guess they've been drinking green beer.) I'll put up a chart, later.

Happy Knitting,
Lisa Kay

P.S. Grandpa E seems to be recovering nicely. He isn't eating yet. Very sore. Probably in the hospital until at least the weekend.

Happy Birthday, Grandpa E

Mitchell and I went to lunch with Grandma E and Maryann, as usual, on Friday. This time, Grandpa E went, too. It was his birthday.

After lunch, we went over to Culver's for dessert.

Mitchell liked Grandma's ice cream flavor better than his own.

Grandpa is retired from the Air Force, and I was born at Beale AFB to sights like this and this. It is no wonder that I do what I do, I suppose. We wish Grandpa all the best for his surgery, tomorrow. We love you, Grandpa!

Cabin Fever

Even though Spring is barely breaking, we got out to the park, today.

We also played some T ball in the yard. I took some video with the new Nikon Coolpix. I was surprised to find such an extensive video mode in a "pocket" camera. Neato! I guess you aren't supposed to rotate the camera in the middle of a clip. Oh well!

It's nice to get out of the house!

The Cow Place

We have various places that we go for lunch on Friday's. One of Mitchell's favorites is Long Horn, otherwise known as, "The Cow Place." It doesn't have as many cows on the walls as it used to have, but there are still a few.

Here we are, with Grandma E and Maryann, at The Cow Place. We're regulars.
