Lisa Kay Knits... and Quilts!

In one of the shop updates on Southern Cross Fibre, I purchased a color set called "Accent Pack #14" on Polwarth Silk. It is eight ounces of "Deep Purple," and one ounce each of the coordinating colors, "Silver Lining," "Moon Rock," "India Ink," and "Aster." I also managed to snag another eight ounces of the lightest grey, "Silver Lining." I have it in mind to make a Boreal , which would ideally just use the "Deep Purple" and "Silver Lining." However, I will almost certainly run short on yarn. Aside from making it a bit cropped, I may do the bottom hem in a bit of a gradient of the darker greys and the "Aster," in order to get more yards of yarn into play. The Boreal pattern includes instructions for both worsted weight and aran weight yarn. I spun for worsted, thinking I could make the yarn go farther that way. Of course, it takes more yarn for the worsted instructions, too... but

I finished up a quick knit of my hand spun Grevillea Gradient. It worked up fast in the aran weight yarn.  I made the body 2.5 inches longer than the pattern stated. Even though it was supposed to be cropped, it was going to be entirely too short for me. The original modeled shots in the magazine had shirt tails showing, and many projects in Ravelry did, too. I took pictures with shirt tails out as well as in. I like it better with the tails tucked in. I'm glad I lengthened it a bit.   There are more notes on my Ravelry project page . Mitchell lost his first tooth, this week. It's permanent replacement was already peeking out from behind when the baby tooth started to loosen. Mitchell had been wiggling it for a few days. He was fiddling with it at school, and one of his classmates said he knew what to do... He grabbed it with a paper towel and pulled it out! Mitchell didn't really want to let me take a picture of his mouth... But I snapped some pictures after some duress. He would rather play with his homemade bow... Happy Knitting, Lisa Kay

I'm about half done with my Grevillea Gradient sweater. I finished my "Bohus-inspired" sweater which I have been calling, "Blue Mountain Bohus." I should note that it is more appropriate to call the sweater “Bohus-inspired” rather than “Bohus.” The term “Bohus” really refers to Bohus Stickning, or the work of that organization, in Sweden. The group began in the 1930’s as a charity organization, providing work to knitters, and becoming an extremely successful business which was in operation until 1969. This information, and much additional interesting background, is available in the book “Poems of Color” by Wendy Keele, a beautiful book and extremely interesting read. I wore the sweater skating, yesterday. Chris and I took Mitchell to the Forest Park skating rink. It was a perfect day to skate outside, and
