The Nina (no Pinta or Santa Maria)

Hi!

The replica of the Nina stopped in Alton, and we went up to see it. We were amazed at how small it is. A small cabin, below, provided the captain some shelter, and he reportedly shared it with Columbus. However, the rest of the ship was full of supplies, and the remainder of the crew "lived" on the deck. The replica was made in Brazil using "traditional" methods. They do have a diesel for canals and locks, but generally are under way with sails only. It is so tiny!

Happy Knitting,

Lisa Kay

Enjoying your blog, Lisa. We toured the Nina when it was in Wilmington, NC, summer 2006.
