Traveling Knitter

Hi,

Last week, I had a business trip to Maryland. I was so near to done on Wicked that I didn't want to drag the large project with me on the trip (knitted in one big piece, sleeves attached and everything), so I started another small project. I took my Mountain Colors Twizzle (obtained at Yarns on Berry Hill during my last New York trip, two weeks earlier), and made a quick "Dulce Neck Cozy." (This pattern link will only work if you are on Ravelry. Sorry.) It was quick and turned out really cute.

My trip to Maryland was a really quick one, and I even had to come home earlier than planned, but I did manage to stop on my way to my afternoon meeting and buy some yarn at Crazy For Ewe. Ellen had to ship it to me, because I only had a computer bag (doubling as an overnight bag) and a purse! But it is here now, and I took pictures when it arrived. Gorgeous! Two colorways of Ellyn Cooper's Yarn Sonnets, Gemini (Primrose and Aquatide), and two coordinating colors of Karabella's Aurora 8.

I am planning a couple sweaters... alternating rows of variegated and solid. I started a vest using a similar layout and alternating rows, with other Ellyn Cooper yarn I already had, Texas Bighorn Wool in the Chinese Poppies colorway, leftover yarn from my Einstein Coat. At Knitty Couture, I picked up one jumbo hank of Alpaca With a Twist "Baby Twist" yarn in a lavender (color 3010) that seemed to coordinate. Here is an early picture. It has seed stitch borders and garter stitch on the rest. Mitchell likes to hold the big ball of Baby Twist. It is really soft. The vest layout is based on the Rectangle Vest (Ravelry link only) in the "Twisted Sisters Knit Sweaters: A Knit-to-Fit Workshop" by Lynne Vogel. Ellen Lewis put this book in my hands. I really like the "knit-to-fit" sizing instructions. It doesn't look like much, yet, but I think I'm going to like it when it is done!

Happy Knitting!
Lisa Kay
