New Shoes

Hi,
Mitchell was starting to say his shoes were too tight, and we made a stop at the shoe store during our regular Friday shopping. They said he measured OK for the ones he had, but he wanted new ones. I'm not one to limit a person to one pair, so I said OK. He picked out a completely different pair. His old ones were white Stride-Rite, and had a "baby" look to them compared to the ones he picked out. He's growing up!

Birthday Mitts

Hi,
Back on my birthday in May, Mom went yarn shopping with me. At two different shops, she picked out a ball of yarn to make Elegaunts. I finished both pairs and gave them to her for her birthday. The purple one is Zara (100% Merino), and the red one is Manos del Uraguay kettle-dyed wool.

Hi,
On Tuesday (July 22), during bath time, Mitchell graced me with "I Love You, Too," for the first time. [I cried.]

Let's Play Tag
Hi,
I've seen a few blog things where folks ask certain questions, and you answer them in turn... This set came from Fig and Plum.
1. What Was I Doing Ten Years Ago?
In 1998, I bought my first house (a townhouse) in Leesburg, Virginia. I was working at Orbital Sciences Corporation on the OrbView-4 imaging satellite. In my free time, I was quilting (not yet knitting) and gardening.
2. What are 5 Things on My To-Do List Today?
a) Sew buttons on Tempest II (done)
b) Update McAfee and remove Spyware from my 'puter (done, I think... ack!)
c) Laundry (still needs folded)
d) Knit if I get some time (I did, a bit... still hoping for a bit more)
e) Sunday night dinner with the grandparents (only W's this week. E's at family reunion...)
3. Snacks I Enjoy
- Lately, I eat a lot of "100 Calorie" anything. My desk is full of 100 Cal Doritoes, popcorn, M&M's, etc... The trick is to just have one!
- Ice cream (My favorite low-cal one is Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches in mint flavor.)
- Cheese (Weight Watchers has some one-point cheese sticks.)
- Sometimes I combine a WW english muffin and WW cheese. (2 pts)
4. Things I Would Do If I Were a Billionaire
- Take golf lessons from someone who knows what they're doing and tour the world's famous courses.
- Knit a lot
- If it happened soon, I might have another child. (Have I mentioned I would quit my job?)
5. Places I Have Lived
- Beale AFB
- Guam
- Southern Illinois
- Cambridge, MA (College)
- Los Angeles (Garden Grove /La Habra / Pasadena / Monrovia / Glendale)
- Virginia (Ashburn and Leesburg)
- Southern Illinois, again
6. Jobs I've Had
Going way back...
- Babysitter
- Lifeguard (3 summers)
- Short order cook (college, 2 years)
- Lab assistant, MIT Space Systems Lab (college, 2 years)
- McDonnell Douglas (Space Station)
- Jet Propulsion Lab (Cassini, Mars Pathfinder)
- Orbital Sciences (BATSAT, OrbView-4)
- Boeing (Hornets)
Tag, you're it. (Leave a comment if you play, so I can see your entry...)

Batman Baby

Hi,
Mitchell knows who Batman is. He has some books, and he recognizes a "bat symbol" when he sees one. Mitchell puts his old dinosaur Halloween costume on his head and calls it his Batman Cape. He says to Daddy, "You be Joker," or "You be Robin," and they chase each other around the house.

Kings of the Mountain
Hi!
Kids put the "climb" into rock climbing!
Kids put the "climb" into rock climbing!
We also added a twist the to regular sliding... we took a car to send down the slide. Sometimes it stayed on all the way to the bottom, and sometimes it flipped out of the side.

Tempest II - Back

Hi!
Tempest II uses Dream in Color "Baby" (their lace weight yarn), in "November Muse" (brown) and "Lipstick Lava" (Melon) from The Loopy Ewe. I've just finished the back. I had to use one size larger needle (7) than the Great Adirondack Silky Sock version. The Dream in Color is a subtle variation in color instead of being truly variegated. It is same yarn dyer as the Central Park Hoodie I made, except that was the worsted weight (in "Ruby River").

Tempest Done!

Hi,
I've finally gotten the buttons on. I've had the knitting done for a couple weeks. I'm pleased with the fit. I'm making another one, already, as part of the next Loopy Knit Along.
Happy Knitting!
