Happy Halloween!!!

Hi, We took Mitchell trick-or-treating. We got him to say, "Trick or Treat" during practice at home, but he played "Michigan J. Frog" in public. He certainly was cute! We made it to a handful of houses on the culdesac before he had had enough. Then, he enjoyed giving out candy at home. I suppose that feels safer. :) I didn't get many pictures with the Elmo "hood" up, because Mitchell kept pulling it off. We were lucky to get the costume on at all, since he made a big fuss. Finally, we started going outside and said we were putting a coat on, and we managed to get him into it. Happy Knitting! Lisa Kay

The Nina (no Pinta or Santa Maria)

Hi! The replica of the Nina stopped in Alton, and we went up to see it. We were amazed at how small it is. A small cabin, below, provided the captain some shelter, and he reportedly shared it with Columbus. However, the rest of the ship was full of supplies, and the remainder of the crew "lived" on the deck. The replica was made in Brazil using "traditional" methods. They do have a diesel for canals and locks, but generally are under way with sails only. It is so tiny! Happy Knitting, Lisa Kay

Mini Opal Fire

Hi! I made these little miniature socks out of leftover "Opal Fire" from the Crazy For Ewe sock club. They are about two inches tall and two inches in the foot. I glued (aaack! glue on knitting???) magnets to the back, and I have one on my refrigerator, and I mailed one to Ellen. :) Maybe I'll start a collection of refrigerator magnets... Happy Knitting! Bountiful Bursting Blooms, Batman!

Hi! Last fall, I picked up six perennial aster plants at a home improvement store. The instructions said to shear them by 1/2 in the middle of summer, which I did. I think it made a big difference, because they were getting "leggy." After that, they really filled out and became nice mounds. It delayed their blooms (because they were budded-out when I sheared them), but it was worth the wait! I have six of these beauties in the side yard. I owe a nod to my friend Elinor. Before she befriended me, I would have been lucky to grow a few blades of fescue... what a treat these purple blooms are! :) Happy Knitting! Lisa Kay

Sock #4: CFE Sock Club

Hi, I finished the Crazy For Ewe (CFE) sock club socks, using the first yarn, which was the July yarn, I believe. (I haven't had it that long; I joined on one of my trips, later.) It is "Opal Fire" by the Great Adirondack Yarn Company, a custom-dyed yarn for the club. The sock club also provided some wonderful patterns, but the one I wanted to make had a complicated chart, and I copped out and made an easy pattern. I used "Crosshatch Lace" from More Sensational Knitted Socks. It has a six-stitch, 8-row repeat that is easy to memorize. I don't think my results look quite like the pictures. I wonder if they knitted into the back of their yarn-overs. I knitted into the front of YO's. It makes the lace openings rather large. I like the socks, though! Happy Knitting! Lisa Kay P.S. Here is the gorgeous yarn, in hank and ball.

Mitchell Likes Hats

Hi! Mitchell likes to put on hats of all kinds, some that fit him, and some that fit his dad. The Titleist hat came from the St. Louis Cardinals baseball players. Grandpa Evelsizer drives a limo, and he happened to take several of the players to a golf tournament. They had a stack of these hats, and they gave one to my dad. He gave it to Mitchell. How cool is that? Note that one of the pictures has a preview of the Elmo trick-or-treat bucket. :) Happy Knitting, Lisa Kay P.S. I am down to the toe on the second sock out of the Crazy For Ewe sock club yarn, so the pair should be posted, soon!

Halloween Dragon, Re-Visited

Hi! In case you were wondering, here's what Mitchell looked like in the dragon outfit, last year. Happy Knitting! Lisa Kay
