Lisa Kay Knits... and Quilts!

Hi! Daddy, that is, um... Santa , had Mitchell's gifts all arranged and a fort built out of the Lincoln Logs. The spacing between the gifts was strategic, allowing for the four dinosaurs and wooly mammoth to lay in wait for one little boy to find them. Once he found the wooly mammoth, he got distracted from opening gifts. The dinosaurs were immediately integrated into the fort scene, which Mommy and Daddy found very amusing. :) Most of Mitchell's gifts were marked, "From Santa." However, there was one from Mommy. Hee, hee! I had to order this from the "Coop" (the bookstore on campus). They don't seem to be widely available. Not much of a market! Happy Knitting! Lisa Kay

Hi! Christmas Eve gives me a chance to post this photo for two reasons: 1. There were two pairs of these "Monkey" socks, and one was a Christmas gift for my mom. Since my folks check the blog, I had to wait! 2. Dad got me this cool mannequin leg for Christmas. The ubiquitous "little bird" told him I wanted one! The sock pattern is the "Monkey" by CookieA, on Knitty.com . The yarn is Ellyn Cooper's Yarn Sonnets, Carrera, in colorway "Aquatide." It is 50% wool, 50% silk. Yummy. I actually made this sock six times. The first two were tight. (I used a size smaller needles than the pattern. Not a good idea.) I thought I'd just put up with them being tight... I had planned to make two pair. After I made the second pair for my mom, I decided they were wonderful and that I had to re-knit the first pair. Since I can knit a sock in about two weeks, I spent about three months on these socks. Boy, was I ready to be done with them! I also made three ...

Hi! We had our first round of Christmas, today, with my side of the family. Chris's side of the family will be tomorrow. Grandma and Grandpa brought Mitchell a "big wheel" type tri-cycle, and he enjoyed helping Daddy put it together! Happy Knitting! Lisa Kay

Hi! I finished the fronts for the Dune Sweater. Mitchell seemed very excited when I laid them out. He ran around in circles, and then seemed to be making a commentary by giving them a good stomp! Happy Knitting, Lisa Kay

Hi! While I was in Maryland the last week in November, I also found some yarn for the Louet "Rosemarie" lace pullover pattern that I had already purchased. Actually, Ellen (at Crazy For Ewe ) found the yarn. She had the great suggestion of combining this Ranco sock yarn (top of the photo) with the Alchemy "Haiku" (bottom of the photo), one strand each. I also purchased enough of the sock yarn to make matching socks! The variegated colors are very alike, even in different brands. I can't wait to make it! Happy Knitting! Lisa Kay

Hi! I've had the Jamieson's book for some time. In fact, I'm told it is out of print. The Wrixlan Jacket is something I picked out to make, long before I was ready to make it (experience-wise). I finally got yarn for it, at Knitty Couture in St. Louis on "The Loop." It is a new store that just opened this fall. They carry some very lovely sock yarn (so this puts it high on my list), and they special ordered me the Dream In Color "Classy" yarn because I needed more than they had in stock. I also bought enough to make Mitchell a pull-over, too. I'm not sure if this is my next project, but I'm looking forward to making it, either way. Happy Knitting! Lisa Kay
